Jim Lazar is a noted economist specializing in the area of energy and utilities. He has frequently consulted with Northwest Public Utility Districts (PUDs), and has been involved in PUD creation and electrification. He is without doubt the foremost expert on the subject of public power in our region.
Because of his expertise, Jim was selected to fill a vacancy on the Thurston PUD Commission several months ago. He represented the PUD at the public forum held Sept. 27th at the Washington Center, sponsored by the League of Women Voters and the Thurston Co. Progressive Network.
The link below is Jim’s opening statement at the Sept. 27th forum. It stands as perhaps the most cogent analysis yet written about the viability of public power in Thurston County.
